Backgammon In The Old Times
Plato's writings made references to backgammon. It is said to be about 5000 years old. It became very popular in France and England from the 1600's. The game was illustrated by Edmond Hoyle in 1743. In the 1930s the current set of rules were written by Wheaton Vaughn and others and soon the game became well known in the US.
In spite of its cherished history, gambling has inevitably made its way into the picture. The main areas for gambling focus on the number of times the men are captured, the number of times the opposite player wins and the how the game is ended. Draws are rare and it is a source of unexpected wealth to the bettor for it is how they can be won.
Backgammon is a game board played with a combination of skill and luck. Backgammon is played by 2 players on a square or rectangular board. This s divided into the 2 equal halves by the bar. The players call one side the inner table and the other side is the outer table.
There are twelve elongated triangles called points and they point towards the center from the edge of each aside of the board. 15 pieces is accorded each player called MEN, OR STONES, OR COUNTERS. Contrasting colors make up a set, often it is white and red, or white and black. These thirty pieces are pleased on the points before the game begins.
Among the other paraphernalia needed are two dice cups, four dice and a doubling cube which has six faxes and naked with numbers 2,4,8,16,32 and 64 digits. This doubling cube is used to double bets when gambling.
The object of the game is to be the first to remove all 15 men from the board only after learning the 15 men to the inner table.
Play begins with a player throwing a single dice, followed by the other player. Whoever rolls the higher number gets to move first by playing the numbers on both dice. Then the 2 dice are rolled by each player and each dice s counted separately and bcan be used to move one or 2 men, according to the strategy made. When 2 or more men belong to one player on a single point, they cannot be attacked. More as the opposing men may not stop on this particular point, no matter what numbers the roll of dice procedures.
Once the point is held by a single men called blot and as enemy or opponents man occupies that point, the blot is a taken away from the point. It is placed on the BAR and will have to start all over. At this point, the player with the man on the bar may not take another one unless that man can enter the table. The count should match to the roll of the dice to block an entrance or else the player loses that turn.
Backgammon is really a game that demands strategy and solid thinking.
